Bill, Hillary Clinton reject subpoenas in Epstein investigation
The committee had scheduled Bill Clinton’s deposition for Tuesday and Hillary Clinton’s for Wednesday. In both an eight-page legal letter and a separate public statement, the couple described the subpoenas as “invalid and legally unenforceable.”
“Every person has to decide when they have seen or had enough and are ready to fight for this country, its principles and its people, no matter the consequences,” the Clintons wrote.
Committee Chairman James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, left an empty chair at the deposition table to mark Bill Clinton’s absence. He expressed disappointment and announced plans for a committee vote next week to hold him in contempt.
“No one’s accusing Bill Clinton of anything, any wrongdoing. We just have questions,” Comer told reporters. If the full House approves the contempt vote, the Justice Department would decide whether to pursue prosecution.
The refusal comes as the Justice Department continues to release thousands of pages from its Epstein investigation. The first batch, published in December 2025, included numerous photographs of Bill Clinton with Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, though the images lacked contextual details or dates.
Clinton’s documented association with Epstein dates back to the late 1990s and early 2000s. Flight logs indicate that Clinton and his entourage took several international trips on Epstein’s private jet, often called the “Lolita Express,” to locations such as Bangkok, Brunei, Rwanda, Russia, and China. Epstein also visited the White House multiple times during Clinton’s presidency.
